The MS-SA program was developed to meet the growing demand for up-to-date expertise in design and construction. The program emphasizes the use of analytical tools to help architects make better design decisions and communicate the rationale to clients. There is significant research that sits at the leading edge of climate change, energy efficiency, and building science across planning, design, and construction. The curriculum was specifically built in reference to the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Framework for Design Excellence and the research in the field.

Applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university (or appropriate international equivalent).
